A "male" letter means the
letter is solid.. 2 piece letters
like "i" may need to be modified (parts may need to be connected with a small
"bridge"). In a male sign, each letter may be separate
or can be
connected to something like a line underneath, artwork, or
border, etc.
A "female" letter
is a hole. For example a ":" (colon) is
now just 2 holes. Also, some female letters needs to be
'stenciled'. For example a "B" or "4" if not stenciled
would just be a hole the shape of the OUTLINE of the letter
without the inside detail. One or more small 'bridges" needs to
be made to hold the inside of a female the letter in place.
RAW/UNFINISHED STEEL We use the term "raw" generally to refer to steel that is not painted. There are 2 types: Hot rolled steel begins with a dark coating. After cutting and cleaning it will have some discoloration and will rust naturally if not protected. This type of steel, unpainted, is typically seen in rusty western style signs and metal art. We use hot rolled steel in the thicker gauges. Cold rolled steel begins as a very silver color. This is the type of steel can be sanded to give it an aluminum look or roughly ground to give it some texture. We use this type of steel in the thinner gauges. Although all raw steel products leave our facility clean, they may even rust slightly in transit. How to speed up the rusting process
If you wish to
speed up the rusting process, dip the item in salt water or you can spray
it with a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and Hydrogen Peroxide solution
mixed with a dash of salt (take appropriate safety precautions) . FONTS Generally we can use any MS Word font or any free TT (true type) font. There are a variety of websites that offer free fonts. Just let us know the name of the font and we can download it.
